Wabash Center’s Montgomery Adult Guardianship Services serves as legal guardian for countless individuals, we’re able to serve as guardian for the often overlooked, unbefriended, or orphaned adults in our communities. We are able to provide this service due to a grant from the State Adult Guardianship Office—Volunteer Advocates for Seniors and Other Incapacitated Adults, VASIA, and matching funds from Montgomery County and the Montgomery County Community Foundation. We provide guardianship to any adult age 18 and up who has a medically diagnosed mental incapacity that leaves the person unable to make safe decisions. Anyone seeking information or if you would like to make a guardianship referral please send an email to guardianship@wabashcenter.com.
Montgomery Adult Guardianship Volunteer Advocates for Seniors and other Incapacitated Adults: Each protected person under our care needs and deserves a Volunteer Advocate. Being a Volunteer Advocate only requires about four hours a month and has an immeasurable improvement on the quality of life of an individual in need. We need your voice. Through specialized training and support from our Program Coordinator, who is also a Nationally Certified Guardian, you will have all the resources you need to make an immediate impact in the life of an individual in this often overlooked and vulnerable population.
Volunteer Advocate Primary Responsibilities: Listen, talk, have fun—form a relationship in the unique way that your client needs, keep tabs on their well-being (medical, social, mood etc), be their voice—speaking and/or acting on their behalf; all with intent to ensure overall well-being. Volunteer Advocates submit monthly reports on their person, they are also fully supported by the Program Coordinator, and are able to communicate with program staff whenever needed.
